I think that would be a good name for the Museum of Making, if they were looking for a new name. As far as I know, they are not. I was totally taken by the fabulous shapes of metal found in the machinery at the museum. For the most part I don’t know what I was taking pictures of and don’t really care. All I know is that these are beautiful pieces of equipment and it was tough limiting the number of photos to share today. Seriously.
I love the graphic quality of all the machinery. It doesn’t hurt that everything is spotlessly clean and shiny. I don’t think I can add any more photos now, but I hope you get a feeling for the place with all the visual eye candy. I never feel strange for spending a lot of time photographing interesting details, though I do get some strange looks. I wonder why everyone else isn’t equally enthralled!
Possibly the proliferation of trash in our culture has dulled the senses to the inherent artistry in a well made machine from an era that is now predominantly in the past? I love much of the modern world — blogging, digital photography, (some) social media — but with all the technological advances of the last 20 years it is a bit overwhelming. I’m on the same page as you about the machines displayed. It would be nice to know what their purpose was; the gears and how all the parts perfectly fit together is so impressive. Then, shine them up and they are art. Thanks for sharing the images.
